2005 Animus - Portugal, Douro
This wine is made from grapes located in Portugal’s Douro region and is composed of 60% Tempranillo, 20% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is classically Portuguese with it’s earthy and cherry laden aromas and on the palate shows a rustic earthly flavor complex with dark over ripe raspberry and tart black cherry. This is not the kind of wine that I would suggest drinking alone without food. It’s rusticity and earthiness would best lend itself to red meat dishes and perhaps some sauteed mushrooms. For the $10-12 price tag this wine is of value but it’s not the best Portuguese wine in this price point and I can’t help but recommend looking somewhere else.
